INclusivity in the OUTdoors

Updated: Nov 12, 2024

2021 Webinar Series

As part of driving equality, diversity and inclusivity (EDI) in the outdoor sector we joined forces with the Institute for Outdoor Learning, the Association of Heads of Outdoor Education Centres, Outward Bound, University of Cumbria, UK Outdoors, and Mosaic Outdoors to design and host a series of webinars that provide an opportunity to explore a range of themes around EDI in the outdoors. The webinars ran from January to May and you can catch up with episode 1-9 here. The free to attend webinar series was open to all and made possible only by the support of guest speakers and experts who took the time to share perspectives, present challenge, and bring new insights from lived experiences to our audiences. We want to build on the existing legacy of projects, initiatives and research within our sector and reach all those involved in facilitating individual, social and environmental learning through activities and experiences in the outdoors. Our vision is to stimulate conversation and collaboration on EDI, inspiring action on broadening participation and strategic leadership, within the Outdoor Learning (OL) community.

The first webinars were participatory and as a result of a series of chat rooms, padlets, polls, and Q&A's, the University of Cumbria are now working on compiling a research report which will support the next steps: Making a Change. This final webinar, number 10, will be held on the 29th of September and we look forward to sharing more nearer the time.
